President's Corner - Feburary

We started a discussion at the January luncheon that I think needs to be presented to our entire membership.   This year, our club has approximately 120 members.  60-70 people regularly attend the monthly meeting (the luncheon), and of those members about 15-25 actively volunteer to serve on the board or as chairwomen.  This group truly enjoys serving the club and they are a wonderful group to work with but they cannot be the only ones.

Our by-laws state that these positions are meant to be a one-year term; however, many of those serving now have been in their jobs for 2, 3 or 4 years.  I brought this up at the luncheon because we are at a critical point with Round Rock New Neighbors.

It is time to nominate new officers to serve next year.  This is always a challenge to say the least, and this year looks particularly difficult as we have many key positions to fill.  President, V-P Programs, V-P Luncheons, Newsletter and Treasurer as well as several chair positions will need to be found.  The absolute worst aspect of this process is that without officers, our club cannot exist.    It is a part of our by-laws and our club charter as a non-profit, social group that we have an elected Board and hold regular meetings.

WE NEED OUR MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER!!!!

I hope each of you will review the list of officers and chair positions listed in the front of our directory and consider which job you could take on.              Anyone can do these jobs if there is the desire to do so!  Call the present office holder and chat about the time and responsibilities of that position.  We are all willing to serve as supportive advisors to the incoming Board.  Several people this year have teamed up with a friend and shared the job.  This is a wonderful idea that makes the work easier and you always have a back- up.  Please be considerate when the nominating committee starts calling.  They are doing a job that you did not want to do.  It is time to think about how much you enjoy this club and volunteer some of your time, ideas and skills to make it even better.  I will keep you informed as the process goes along.  With your help, I hope to have good news.
